English duo finally grabs World Cup trophy
The English duo was finally able to claim its hegemony and dominion status in darts after it was able to defeat the Australian team in the grand finale of Cash Converters Championship at Hamburg.
In what turned out to be an interesting event on the whole, the finale of the event was rather one-sided.
Phil Taylor and Adrian Lewis, proving that they are still the champions of darts, were able to whitewash their opponents with a 3-0 victory.
It was ‘the power’ who once again, proving his champion skills, nailed ‘the bull’ Nicholson.
The Aussies, despite getting five early darts in the match, were soon forced to level down as Lewis made a tremendous comeback.
With the help of double five he was able to seal victory for the English duo in the event.
While Lewis made the final stages of the game decisive, it was Taylor who provided England with the perfect start.
In the opening rubber of the event, Taylor was able to lead his team with 7-4.
As compared to Taylor, it was Lewis who had greater responsibility on his shoulders as he had to face the in-form Whitlock.
However, he was still able to make his presence felt by maintaining his lead over his opponent.
It was when both teams stood at 4-4 that Taylor finally pushed the accelerator. With the help of double 16 shots, he provided his team with the much required and awaited boost.
The lead which was only fleetingly existent once again dragged the game into a phase of dormancy, with both teams stagnant at 5-5.
The point came as a perfect opportunity for Lewis to showcase his skills of darts. With the help of a scintillating 161 checkout, he was finally able to clinch the lead.
Nicholson’s encounter against Lewis proved to be crucial as the Aussie was impressively able to grab a 7-4 victory against his opponent.
The match entered a nail-biting phase with a 3-0 lead accompanied with a deficit it seemed difficult for England to overcome.
However, things took an interesting turn when, in the last moments of the game, Nicholson and Whitlock, both missed some important darts shots and provided the English deadly duo an opportunity to capitalise on.
With Lewis hitting a double-five, England was able to snatch victory just inches away from the Australians.
Both teams were able to reserve their place in the finale after defeating their opponents, Wales and Holland, respectively.
