Hi,

I am a 22 year old from London born of Irish parents who are hoping to move to back to NI next year. I was planning to go with them and continue my studies either in Belfast or Dublin.

I holiday in Ireland every year and obviously have had no trouble with family etc about the fact I grew up in England but my parents are worried that it will be a different story living there, especilaly as they are from quite a political area.....

I would like to hear from anyone living in N Ireland who could shed some light on what is the attitude towards English people (even those from Irish parents) in the work place and on nights out for example.

Family tend to claim 'ahh you'll be grand' which is the standard answer to anything lol

An objective opinion would be good :)

Thanks!

  1. I'm from NI, ans as far as I know, no one really cares if you're from England.

  2. Depends on which political area you are from. If you are going to live in a loyalist area it shouldn't be a problem, if you're going to live in a republican area you might get a bit of stick in some places but that'll probably pass when people get to know you. If you'll be living in a non-political neutral area again it won't be a problem.  On the whole you won't experience any trouble but you'll always find a few stupid bigoted people no matter where you go but it's best just to ignore them!

  3. sorry I don't have an answer for you but just to say I love Irish people! they're so laid back and funny... I wouldn't be scared to live there even though I'm neither English nor Irish. good luck!x

  4. You should not have any problems at all, the very small minority might have something stupid to say but they are few and far between. I wish you well.

  5. im not actually from the north but have family living there, it all depends on what part of belfast you would be going to, your religion and even the way you speak... you'd be better of going to dublin.... i wont lie to you its a dangerous place to be
