im doing a speech and the end of our speech should be devoted to explaining how our research deepens the understanding of the book we are reading, what does that mean?

It means  that you need to explain how doing research has helped you understand the parts of the book that you didn't get or didn't know.

Like if the book is about Mexico or something, and you do some research, you learned about their holidays and food, so the part of the book where the charactesr go to a holiday party and eat some food makes more sense.

how well you understand the views in the book and the subjects/ how you can apply it in a life situation. just discuss what the book meant to you/ possibly if you liked it or not(depending on what the class wants) and give a short review of the plot of the book.

It means how you comprehend the book. What research have you found that helps you understand what you have read.
