English in madrid or barcelona?

im doing some research on spain and 1 thing im missing is the languages spoken

id like to know. where is english spoken more, in Barcelona or madrid?

Many Spaniards are multilingual and most in the service industry do speak English.   They speak Spanish in Madrid and Catalan in Barcelona. They Speak more English next door in England.

I'd say it's a toss-up. Both cities are equally and understandably poor in their knowledge of the English language. But this is changing due to a government sponsored program requiring English proficiency classes for youngsters.

But if I had to choose one or the other I'd guess Madrid.

I would have to say that Barcelona, being the more cosmopolitan city, would have more speakers of English, simply because it's closer to the border, and more people get there from other countries, and more British people seem to frecuent there.  

Madrid is almost as large, and, being the capital, also would have a huge number of English speakers, but I'm pretty sure that Barcelona has MORE people, outside of the government sector, who are fluent in English, and other languages, as well.

I have so little experience, as I speak fluent Spanish, and didn't look for English speakers in either city.  

I did have to deal with the English speaking policeman who took my husband's report for a pickpocketing...because my husband doesn't speak Spanish, so we just started with the one who spoke English - in Barcelona.

They speak Cantonese in Barcelona. They do speak English in the malls and larger outlet stores and the hotels are multi-lingual.

The english is a obligatory asignature, more or less a lot of people knows a little, but it's dificult to say that in wich country the english is more spoken.

Is like i ask you, in what city NY or LA the spanish is more spoken.

But it think in Batcelona maybe, 'cause in Barcelona there are always lots of "visitants" and maybe in shops knows english.
