  1. Spinning refers to reel capabilities of forward and backward movement; taking in line or playing it out.  Casting is the whip-like action you use to throw the line out (make sure your reel is set to free spin by clicking the lever) and jigging is the up down motion you use to jerk the line and simulate movement of your fly or bait.

  2. A Spinning rod you can use for angling.  Fresh or salt water.  This is where you are luring in the fish by dropping the spinner or lure next to the fish's mouth/head.  (spinning can be applied to a type of rod and a type of lure)

Casting is what you do with a basic rod and real.  You are casting into water further away.  You anticipate fish are there and will eventually bite.

Jigging is fishing with a Jig.  A Jig is a type of lure.  Jigs are used for angling by fishers who prefer them over spinners or who are trying to attract a specific type of fish.

Jigging and spinning - as well as fly fishing are great ways to flats fish or stream fish.  You are fishing for a specific fish you see and are fishing with the current and tides.
