  1. 'Magic' is defined as altering events by using supernatural powers. I'm not sure that that many adult people still do believe in it.

There are, however, more levels of mind than those we consider 'normal', intellect, imagination, emotion, etc. These deeper levels are explored, in very different ways, by mystics, shamans and others. The similarity of experience that they report suggests that we should not dismiss these matters lightly.

So, I do not believe that a witch can fly on a broomstick, but I do believe that she may achieve a deeper understanding of the underlying nature of that broomstick than can normally  be reached.

  2. I think that it is the unknown that is attractive to people. Psychics, faith, mystics, magic and death are all unknown areas of life and so people are interested in it. Believing in the unknown or unproven a challenge to some and makes their life interesting.

  3. Western culture expanded mass education and logical/rational thinking faster than any other culture in the history of humanity.  At this point in time, is is highly divided into those which can accept a logical/rational explanation for every event in the Universe and those who cannot.

Even those who do will accept Magic and the Supernatural as entertainment.  They separate reality from fantasy and imagination.

Your comment that "so many people of Western world" is only directed to those who do not.  For these people, Magic and the Supernatural are a part of their reality.  Their argument goes along the lines of a logical/rational explanation does not exist for everything, so there must be something more.

This is not a position of just "so many people of Western world" but of the majority of people in the world.  Not everyone has the mental and emotional control that you might have.  Not everyone is as educated.  Not everyone has the ability to use logic without flaws or contradictions.

Humans are very complicated beings.  If everything they did was logical and rational, they would not be human.  War is not logical.  Destruction of the planetary environment is not logical.  Romance and Lust are not logical.  Being foolish is not logical.  But these are all part of current humanity.

  4. Magick is something I believe in, though for reasons I cannot explain. Though I may be educated to be rational and logical, I refuse to bow to the expected.

  5. Because anything unkown attracts people due to curiosity.

  6. Magic is supposedly creating something in the physical world that is not naturally possible

if it really exists, probably not.

  7. The magic of the past has often turned out to be the science of the future.  There are still things that occur that have no rational explanation and for want of a better description some people will call that magic.

Magic can also be used to describe something wonderful like a flower opening or dew on the grass, we know how and why but it's appearance is still magical.

There is nothing wrong with a bit of magic in your lives!!

  8. Even rational and educated people can be fooled by clever psychics, clairvoyants, mediums, they are very clever and talented people. just like magicians on the stage.

The big difference is that a stage magician will admit that his tricks are just that, tricks, he will admit that he has no paranormal powers.

Uri Geller is a good example, when he came to this country he claimed that he could bend spoons by a god given power of the mind, he fooled many of the top scientists in the country.

He was exposed by another magician James Randi who is an acknowledged expert in exposing the tricks of fraudulent mediums and psychics, he offers $1,000,000 to anyone who can prove ANY paranormal powers.

Back to Uri Geller, if anyone had bothered to check before he came to this country he was a STAGE MAGICIAN!!

He tried to get into the 'Magic Circle' at the time, but they barred anyone who claimed 'God given' powers, he has now been accepted as a MAGICIAN.
