English major next year?

I'm attending college next year (fall 2009), and i've decided i want to major in english, and take some classes in journalism and mass communications. i've always been interested in all aspects of english such as literature, reading, and writing, but i'm not sure what kind of career i should pursue. I know many people that major in English become teachers, but i definitely don't want to pursue teaching.

any recommendations as to any careers i should consider?
