English player Toby Flood disappointed by rusty game against Wales- Rugby News
English player Toby Flood has been left disappointed by his team's sluggish efforts against Wales on August 13. The English side received an insulting defeat of 19-9 by Wales during a Rugby World Cup warm-up match at Millennium Stadium. The English side
missed a number of opportunities to score in the match and in the end were left l*****g their wounds. Toby Flood admitted on August 15 that their performance against Wales was shameful and they should have put a better effort in the match.
England scored on just three penalties in the whole match and cut a sorry figure against the meagre side from Wales. The English side took an early lead over Wales as Toby Flood opened the account for his side very quickly in the first half. Flood was the
only man to score for England using his boots each time.
Flood kicked three successful penalty kicks through the posts of Wales during the 2nd, 21st and 41st minute of the match. The rest of their team including big guns like Ben Foden, Mike Tindall and Mark Cueto had contributed
nothing more than empty runs in the field. The loosing side clearly lacked a few tries in the match which could have put them in a good position to grab another victory over Wales in the ongoing RWC warm-up matches.
Talking to the reporters on August 15, Toby Flood said that tries made the real difference in the match. Flood added that, “It hurts, the fact we couldn't score a try. It is shameful. We can use harsh words because if you want to win a World Cup, tries are
massive. We could have gone out there and stretched the lead and kicked goals but we made the decision to go out there and see if things were working.”
Talking about the latest performance of his side Flood said that, “That is the hardest thing for me. That left us in a position where we think there is a lot of work to do over the next two weeks.”
Wales scored just single try in the match but had done well to keep the English players away from white line.
