  1. Of all Shakespeare's plays, Macbeth is one of the best-suited for a modern adaptation. The play's themes - of ambition, treachery and the supernatural - have been common in countless plays and films produced since Shakespeare's day. Its characters have remained recognisable to modern audiences. This is also a play that uses "special effects": the ghost of Banquo, the visions conjured by the witches and the coming of Burnham wood. So it is easy to see why today's filmmakers have returned to Macbeth. This essay will compare Shakespeare's original play with a modern film adaptation from the BBC's "Shakespeare Retold" series.

  2. "Fair is foul, and foul is fair." Or another quote from "the Scottish play" that you think it appropriate.

Edit: Or if you really think poorly of the movie:

"...it is a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing." Act V, Scene V

Edit: Sorry, I thought you just wanted an opening line.

  3. I would take an original dialog between 2 or 3 people and change one persons to more current language while leaving the others language as original English.

The 3 witches in the beginning would be easy enough. This could be the beginning of reviewing the changes of not only language but time, setting, actors (at the time of the original play they were all men- no women).
