I wanna ask you how hard would be for an english-speaker (no native) to spend a week in Montreal on vacations. Is it hard to find people who can understand you if you ask in english for street adresses, order food, and so on, or the most of people speak both english and french?

  1. Well you can't get a job in Montreal unless you know both languages, so i'm guessing it won't be too hard. Just brush up on your french a bit, learn the basics. Like:

    Hello : Bonjour

Comment Ca Va : How are you?

    Tres bien : Very Well.

    Goodbye: Au Revoir.

  2. hahaha to last answer "parler vous anglais" your better off just asking "do you speak english" not to look like a dumb ***. you can easily get by downtown MTL in english, sorry in advance if you encounter rude quebeckers. no offence to anyone, but you know 100% what I'm talking about.

  3. I am from Manitoba and if U stay downtown where all the action is people speak english french doesnt matter they switch back and forth with ease they are very accomodating relax and enjoy your vacation what an amazing city. All you need to know to say in French is you are ever stuck or struggling is Par Le Vou En Ang Lay...just like that which means do u speak english?

  4. no problem for tourists. plus in downtown almost everyone speaks both languages, or if not then understands a little.

  5. There is enough English around the city where you don't have to worry about not being able to speak French.  But it would still be helpful to pick up just a few phrases here and there just in case.

  6. A lot of folks in Montreal speak both languages now - especially the younger generation on the west side of downtown so don't worry too much about that.

Just relax and enjoy your vacation in Montreal!
