English spinners performed well on turning http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mumbai-c820 wicket, admits Rajeev Shukla – Cricket News Update
Disappointed to see http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750’s (BCCI) vice president Rajiv Shukla admitted that the tourists performed better on the turning Wankhede wicket.
"It is sad. After the victory in Ahmedabad the batting line-up could not perform the way it should have. It was a turning wicket and English spinners performed better," said Shukla while speaking to media reporters after India’s ten-wicket crushing at the hands of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 in the second Test in Mumbai, on Monday.
After having crushed http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Monty-Panesar-c2024’s spin on the turning Wankhede wicket.
Panesar, who sat out the Ahmedabad Test in favour of all-rounder http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Samit-Patel-c2426, picked up a six-wicket haul in the second innings to help his side restrict the hosts to just 142. Overall, the 30-year-old left-arm orthodox spinner returned with career best figures of 11 for 210.
Shukla also said that the board will look into the matter and would take necessary corrective measures ahead of the third Test, which gets underway at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on December 5.
"We will discuss the shortcomings and so will the team management to see how the performance can be improved," he said.
Shukla, the chairman of the lucrative Indian Premier League (IPL), also backed the out of form Indian veteran, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/SR-Tendulkar-c2556, to come good in the remaining two Tests of the four-match series.
Tendulkar’s extended lean patch, which saw him scoring just 153 runs in last ten innings, and only 23 in the three innings against England, reignited the debate over his retirement. But Shukla said that the legendary batsman holds a colossal record and one cannot analyse his performance based on a few bad innings.
"He will hang up his boots when he thinks it's time for him to go. He does not need any advise on this. Before making a comment on his performance you have to see his colossal record and his past performance," said the BCCI vice president. "He will do well in the forthcoming matches," he added further.
