With Roy Hodgson in charge of the English team, many players were overlooked and despite having a great season, they will not be playing in the Euro 2012.
The golden age of the English team is now long gone. Players like http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Rio-Ferdinand-c31173, Frank Lampard and Steven Gerrard are not at their best anymore and that is one of the reasons why the Three Lions are not the favourites to win the Euro 2012.
Roy Hodgson took charge of the English national team as Fabio Capello decided to leave the post after failing to impress in the FIFA World Cup 2010, and the friendly matches which followed.
Hodgson, who was once a http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 manager, took biased decisions and selected an England squad which consists of a number of Liverpool players who don’t even deserve to be in the team.
The current selection of the English team does not consist of the best of players at disposal and the squad could easily be considered amongst the best Euro 2012 side had Roy Hodgson selected the perfect players.
There are a few players who can perform phenomenally, no doubt; however, there are a few who do not deserve to be in the English team at all, while there are others who didn’t receive a call-up and definitely deserved to get it.
Fabio Capello made the mistake of changing the usual 4-4-2 formation of the English team; as he decided to play in a 4-3-3 setup.
The 4-3-3 formation did not suit the English team altogether. It was hard for them to adapt to this template, and the Italian manager tried to replicate Barcelona’s footballing philosophy and with a team like http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749, who are famous for their attacking prowess
and long-ball philosophy, it was hard for them to cope up.
However, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Fabio-c13152 Capello’s failure wasn’t only because the team couldn’t adapt to the 4-3-3 system; in fact, there were a number of problems faced by the English team back then.
During the FIFA World Cup 2010, he didn’t play http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Steven-Gerrard-c34196 playing as a winger
– something which did not work out for the English team.
Besides this, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Wayne-Rooney-c36736’s form was not the best during the international competition. The English star was going through his own issues and it was hard for him to play in the tournament.
After having a phenomenal season with Manchester United, Wayne Rooney was expected to shine during the World Cup which took place in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/South-Africa-c757. However, apparently the striker was going through a lot in his personal life and he kept on misfiring throughout
the tournament, hence making it difficult for the English team to rely on him.
Moreover, England were also a bit out of luck. First, the English side slumped to a 1-1 draw against USA, when http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Roberto-c31294 Green conceded a blunder of a goal. The ball was crawling towards his arms, but he somehow managed to fumble it and it travelled into the
back of the net.
Later, when the English side faced http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Frank-Lampard-c14097’s strike went yards inside the net, but the referee though otherwise and the goal was disallowed.
