  1. No need to bring dollars, we pay with shekels and the guy above me makes sense.

  2. shekels is a currency of choice, if you are going to convert currency then convert it at a money change in israel and not at a bank (banks charge a much higher commission)msost stores and restuarants ,taxisdo not accept foreign currency, only at hotels are they happy to accept the $.

also on top of currency, it is always good to bring with you a credit card.

    enjoy your stay

  3. It is best to take shekels because the conversion rate is so poor, but many vendors in Israel DO accept american currency. So I would bring maybe $100 in U.S. money if possible.

  4. You don't want to take dollars because you will lose out on the conversion rate and commission buying them in the UK and then again converting them to Shekels in Israel. You would pay double.

  5. Definately Shekels. That's the currency of our country - and the dollar is plummeting against the Shekel on a daily basis.

Welcome to Israel; have a brilliant time!

  6. It depends whather you're going to Toursit areas or around and about. Most places will NOT accept dollars only shekels. last time I went I took Dollar traveller cheques (bit only because I got a good deal and no commision to buy them). In central Jerusalem Dollars were accepted but outside the centre of Jerusalem only shekels were accepted. However, it may be an idea to take Sterling traveller's cheques rather than Cash shekels.
