I am a self taught English student. I would appreicate it if someoen help me out by answering the questions below.

=====

I wonder why it is possible to omit the subject pronoun and change the verb to its-ing form as like this:

Ex: Englsih has an alphabet that consists of 26 letters

(= English has an alphabet consiting of 26 letters)

Ex: Anyone who wants to come with us is welcome

(= Anyone who wanting to come with us is welcome)

I wonder if I can change this sentence below in the same way and I wonder why... or why not if I can not..

1. Then she waits for the bus that takes her back to her uptown apartment

--> Then she waits for the bus taking her back to her uptown apartment

2. Jan is a working girl who bounces through a routine from nine to five

---> Jan is a working bouncing throught a routine from nine to five.

  1. *Agrees with dragonfly*

    Most of your examples with -ing demonstrate informal grammar, which would probably be appropriate in an conversation or casual email, but is not in fact correct.

  2. Actually all of the scentences with ing demonstrate incorrect grammar usage.  While it is appropriate in speech to make those changes, it is inappropriate to do so when writing them.
