Englishman Carl Mason returns to defend his title in Spain on the European Senior Tour
Carl Mason, one of the most prolific Senior Tour player has now confirmed that he will returning to the Spanish turf to try his luck for yet another title, the Benahavis Senior Masters.
The event will be held from June 1 to 3, at the scenic La Quinta Golf and Country Club. Mason, who has won some 30 professional titles in his career, has the record of winning the most Senior Tour titles mounting to 25 in all.
Mason had another strong season last year when he landed two Senior Tour titles on the Spanish spoil including the OKI Open de España Senior by Cleveland Golf.
Soon afterwards, he won the Benahavis Senior Masters, his 25th Senior Tour victory. The 58-year-old Englishman is returning to retain the title and continue his winning spree on the Senior Tour.
Managing Director of the European Senior Tour, Andy Stubbs lauded Mason’s prolific run to stardom on the Senior Tour.
Moreover, he said that his continued participation will reinforce the commitment of Senior Tour to carry on with its mission.
He said, “The Benahavis Senior Masters has established itself on the Senior Tour schedule since it was first played in 2009 and already has an impressive history with Carl’s two victories and Boonchu Ruangkit winning in 2010 on his way to claiming the John Jacobs Trophy”.
Stubbs also paid his gratitude to the supports and sponsors of the event and particularly commended the continued support that Senior Tour has been receiving from the La Quinta GC.
He added, “We are grateful to the local council, the Ayuntamiento de Benahavis, promoter Sportcel, La Quinta and all of our other sponsors for their continued support of this event and we look forward to another superb tournament”.
Meanwhile, officials at La Quinta GC are also jubilant on the prospects of hosting the star-studded event in the summers.
The course has been designed by Senior Tour player Manuel Piñero who was also the Spanish Ryder Cup player. The course is a sprawling layout facing the historic city of Marbella.
The event has already received a boast of €20,000 in the total prize fund and the prize money has now surged to €200,000.
This will be the fourth edition of the event on Spanish turf and Mason has won twice including his 2009 victory on the same venue.
