Englishman David Howell eyes a come-back to the golfing arena
Englishman David Howell is looking to make a dramatic come-back into the golfing world. He has immense talent and won the HSBC Champions Tournament in 2005. Howell won the championship by a margin of three strokes over the former world number one Tiger Woods.
Howell was in great shape at that time and everything was going in the right direction for him, as he was having a dream run being a professional golfer a few years back. The 35-year-old has played the Ryder Cup two times in 2004 and 2005 representing Europe.
In 2004, he was a part of the winning team of Europe which won by a record margin of nine points against the Americans. The Ryder Cup win was a confidence booster for him, as he won his second European Tour event of BMW Invitational in 2005 and also improved
his world rankings.
As misery continues with a lot of golfers, Howell slipped in the order of merit in 2007 and lost his position. The Englishman again improved his rankings in 2008, but his radar was not going in the right direction as the next year started. He is now, not
even among the top-500 golfers of the world.
The former Ryder Cup remembers one thing from his memories that he had a rollercoaster ride when he was at the peak of his form. Woods also named him as a ‘cool dude’ which he can never forget. Crowds used to love him for his gestures on the course, as did
his opponents.
Howell in his recent interview said, “I have had a couple of top-10 finishes in the past few months which has built more confidence in me to make a comeback. Critics are always there whether it is golf or any other sport.”
The golfing world is focusing on the bright emerging stars or generation of youngsters like Rickie Fowler, Rory McIlroy, Ryo Ishikawa, Matteo Manassero and former Asian number one Noh Seung-yul. All these players for the past one year have made a mark and
shaken the golfing world with their presence.
These players are rated as the next rising superstars of professional golf. Every time, it is Tiger Woods who is in highlights, but for a long while, he is has been stuck with no victories coming his way.
There are a lot of golfers from Europe who have made a drastic come-back to the golfing arena. Lee Westwood of England is one of them, as he improved his rankings last year and overtook the honourable number one rankings from Woods. Westwood improved his
hitting and continues to dominate in tournaments he plays.
Westwood can act like a role model for Howell who is slowly trying to making a come-back. It is expected by many that Howell will soon improve his position and prove to critics on the course by playing more tournaments.
