Englishman Ian Poulter hopes to land the Ballantine’s Championship title this week
Blackstone Golf Club near Seoul is all set to receive one of the most celebrated contingents of golfers from across the world and will be the host of arguably the biggest golf event in the country, the Ballantine’s Championship this week.
Seated in the scenic backdrop of the bustling metropolis of Seoul, Blackstone has been consistently ranked as one of the best golf courses in the country and has been hosting the star-studded event for a considerable period of time.
Among the many giants of the sport of the likes of Open Champion Darren Clarke, World Number 12 Adam Scott, and Spaniard Miguel Angel Jiménez, Ian Poulter will be one of the strongest contestants in the event.
The Englishman is coming out of a strong finish at the Volvo China Open where he landed a solid final round to post an impressive finish.
Lurking in obscurity in the opening three days in Tianjin, Poulter blasted his way into contention with a final round of six-under, 66.
He said, “I am looking forward to getting out there after the final round in China. The first three days in China were frustrating because I was hitting the ball well, but then to go out on Sunday and make a load of birdies and leave a few out there as well
tells me I could have gone very low”.
Poulter missed the halfway cut in the event last year but given his experience of the layout, Englishman is adamant that his current form will definitely take him to new heights in the event this year.
He added, “There are a lot of elevation changes, and there are a number of tee shots that you need to be really aggressive on, and I like that. I am driving the ball very well at the moment”.
Also part of the field is the last year’s runner up Miguel Angel Jimenez who is known for his penchant for the Asian turf.
Poulter has done well since the start of the current season. He landed a joint third at Bay Hill before finishing for the career high of joint seventh at Masters.
