Englishman Lee Westwood aims for glory at BMW PGA Championship – Golf news

Lee Westwood of England has confirmed his participation in the BMW PGA Championship which will be played in Surrey, England. The current world number one Westwood is hoping to add another victory to his career.
Westwood is enjoying great form this season. He has already shown his skills and ability as he recently won the Ballantine’s Championship. The 38-year-old came from behind and went on to claim his 21st European Tour victory.
It was another back-to-back win for Westwood who has won two consecutive tournaments. He will be amongst the field in Surrey along with his European Tour members Martin Kaymer and Luke Donald. Kaymer is ranked at number two and Donald at number three on
the Official World Golf Rankings.
The 38-year-old will highlight the tournament with his participation. It will be a four-day championship which will be played at the exquisite par-71, Wentworth Club. The event will begin from May 26, 2011.
This event holds importance for all the European players. It carries the biggest prize money after all the four major tournaments. In 2011, the sponsors have sanctioned an amount of €4.5 million for the purpose. Westwood also thinks that this is a lucrative
amount for all the players.
This amount will certainly attract more top ranked international players like Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson.
Westwood said, “The BMW PGA Championship is the biggest title that I play for outside of the Majors. It’s bigger than the World Golf Championships because of what the tournament represents for us as The European Tour. It’s the Tour’s showcase event and obviously
I’d love to win  – it is always a great event to play in and it would be nice to win a BMW tournament for the first time and it is certainly a high priority for me in any season.”
This can be a great victory for Westwood ahead of The Open Championship. It will certainly boost the confidence of the world number one who is yet to prove the critics wrong by winning a major tournament in his career.
On the other hand, world number two Kaymer has targeted this tournament. He is looking forward to add another victory to his escalating career. The German has already won this championship in 2008.
The 26-year-old Kaymer won his first major in 2010 at the US PGA Championship. It was a great victory for the youngster who has gained more confidence after his win.
Kaymer was deposed from his number one ranking by Westwood recently. Now the 26-year-old major winner is once again hoping to reclaim his number one spot.
The Englishman Luke Donald is also enjoying his current form. 2011 has proved out to be a great one for him as he moved to his career best ranking. He occupied the number three spot after he won the 2011 WGC-Accenture Match Play Championships by beating
Kaymer.
The 33-year-old Donald was tied last year for the second place as he was just one stroke behind the winner Simon Khan. Donald had to share the second position with Fredrik Andersson.
Simon Khan of the host country is the defending champion. He played some promising golf in 2010 as he won his second career title.
It will be a star-studded field as some other players are also expected to participate in this tournament.
