Englishman Luke Donald continues his impressive run at WGC-Accenture Match Play
Englishman Luke Donald who has made it through to the quarter-final stage in the WGC-Accenture Match play being played at Ritz-Carlton Golf Course in Arizona, will be looking forward to lift the Championship trophy this year. He is paired against Ryan Moore
in the fourth round and is hoping to curb the challenging Moore to make it to the semi-finals.
Donald, who was playing for the Europe Team in The Ryder Cup last year, is aiming high in this championship. He won all his three matches against Charley Hoffman, Edoardo Molinari and Matteo Manassero and will now play against Moore in the quarters. Donald
has had a great run in the Ryder Cup last year and earned a crucial point for his team, as he is coming off a long winter break as was spending time with his family.
World number nine was over-whelmed with his victory against the Italian star Matteo Manassero, who was the youngest player on the field. While talking to media he said, "Last week was my first week back for 11 weeks." The weather conditions on Friday were
extremely difficult for the players on the course as rain was expected.
The Ryder Cup member has been working hard on his swing and driving accuracy. He has not had a good run in the recent Accenture Match Plays. Donald was tied for the 16th spot in 2009 and 2010, as this is his best place until now and he is not
finished as yet. The impressive European golfer was hitting the ball well and it was seen in his crisp iron shots off the fairways. In his match against Manassero, he dominated throughout the match and was never down. Manaserro only won three of the 16 holes
they played but was unable to challenge his opponent.
Donald won his last title of the Madrid Masters last year sanctioned by the European Tour. He was among the players last year in the Ryder Cup who earned three points out of four for their team. Many professionals consider him as an average player who finishes
among the top ten and earns a good amount of money, as they do not consider him in the category of a great player.
The Englishman, who is 33-years-old now, has an opportunity to prove himself to the critics and win the match play championship. He last won a Professional Golfer’s Association Tour event in 2006 and has not won since then. The European Tour member will
now be facing Ryan Moore in the quarter stage and is confident of winning his match. He will be looking to bring the trophy back to England as his compatriot Ian Poulter was the defending champion.
Donald’s European Tour member Martin Kaymer of Germany also will be looking on to take the number one spot of Lee Westwood by winning the match play championships. Kaymer is paired against the experienced Spaniard veteran Miguel Angel Jimenez in the quarter-finals.
Jimenez earlier had a rather easy win against Ben Crane who won by 8up with 6 holes to play.
The quarter-finals will be played earlier today on Saturday morning followed up by the semi-finals. All the Americans and Europeans are charged up to take the winning trophy and the prize money.
