Englishman Luke Donald named European Tour Best Golfer for the Month of February
The dream run for the Englishman Luke Donald continues since he won the WGC-Accenture Match play and improved his official world golf rankings to the third spot. Donald has been has also been named as the best European Tour Golfer for the month of February.
He won the final match play championships against the current world number one German Martin Kaymer in a superb final round which was played at the beautiful Ritz Carlton Golf Club in Arizona.
The 33-year-old, who turned his status to professional ten years back, has always been the spotlight of critics especially by the American journalists. The Ryder Cup member has been in the headlines and never was counted among the best golfers of Europe.
It has been written about his that he only finishes in the top-10 to make money, but never could curb the challenge of winning a major championship. He will now receive a beautiful engraved trophy and a bottle of champagne after achieving success in the past
week.
Donald who posted his third win playing on the Professional Golfer’s Association Tour after a long wait was overwhelmed with victory that came his way. He was never down in any of the matches he played last week and showed his class during the match play
format. The Englishman was in complete control against his opponents which at the end led him to a victory after the final concluded.
The European Tour member took a break and was working hard on his swing on the practice range. Finally, his hard work produced some brilliant results for him as he now has a career-high ranking and is just behind his compatriots Lee Westwood and Martin Kaymer.
Last week’s event of the Match Play championships was his second tournament this year. It was seen by many that his short game around the greens produced amazing results for him. Donald also was hitting the ball well off the tee and fairway and his putting
stroke was exquisite. The victory last week was a confidence booster for the player from England.
After his victory last week, Donald in his interview with the media said, “Lifting the match play championship trophy was a proud moment for me which I can never forget. I am feeling much better and my confidence level has increased a lot. This trophy is
dedicated to my newly born daughter and my wife who has always supported me.”
Donald has always been impressive in the match play format and has a hundred per cent record. Many of the critics were expecting Kaymer to easily win in the final against his European Tour member. But the world number three proved many wrong. Last year in
the Ryder Cup, Donald earned three points for his victorious European Team and that is why he is considered as a dangerous player when it comes to this format.
