  1. You are in the United States Army, Field Artillery--you love it. I don't understand why you are asking this question.

My oldest daughter's husband recently retired from the U.S. Army. He was in the National Guard while still in high school, and while in the "regular" Army, was deployed to Desert Storm and Bosnia. His last assignment was as a Communications Specialist at the Pentagon.

I am so proud of my son-in-law, and my daughter's support of him. They are now divorced; but, they both "fought the good fight".

My youngest daughter married a young man who joined the Army six months after the marriage. He encouraged her to also join, which she did. After my daughter's basic training, she was assigned to a base in Germany, where her husband was.  One year later, they divorced, and my daughter married her supervising sergeant. Two years later, my youngest daughter delivered a beautiful little girl at an Army base in Germany.

My daughter served eight years in the United States Army as a Supply Clerk--four years in Germany and four years at an Army base in Virginia.  My daughter was "happy" in the Army, and  would have retired from the Army; but, she opted out because her next assignment was going to be Korea, an area where she could not take her three-year-old daughter.

Thanks to benefits provided to her through her military service, she was able to afford to go to college and earn a teaching degree.

My oldest daughter was not in the military; but, she supported her husband throughout his assignments in Germany, Desert Storm, and Bosnia.

In my opinion, there is no greater commitment one can give to their country than by "joining" some branch of the military.

I was not given the opportunity to join the military. When I graduated from high school in 1959, the military did not recruit high school females. Even when I graduated from college in 1965, the military only wanted female medical personnel--nurses--not doctors.

My first husband, father of the two daughters I speak of, was classified  4F (unfit for military duty) because his family "knew" people who could get him classified as such, and who sent letters and made phone calls to get him classified as 4F. Don't tell me this didn't happen, because I know it did.

My father and his two brothers did not get "drafted" into WWII because their mother threw a "hissy fit", and their father was the County Sheriff, who controlled whose name would go into the "draft pot". None of my grandmother's sons' names went into the pot!

I applaud anyone who joins any branch of the military. I am 67, and I wish the military didn't think I was too old to serve my country.

  2. HOW CAN ANYONE SAY THIS IS A BAD THING? look bro im going into the army too. OUT of all my groups of freinds from high school 5 have joined the military.

    DEATH BEFORE DISHONOR!

  3. It was a tough decision to make.  I think it is an honorable thing to do.  Thank you for serving.

  4. How could it have been a bad thing to join?

  5. which army?

if its the U.S. army than thanks for serving the country.

  6. I do not support the fact that you're in the army, but I do hope you stay safe.

  7. I loved being in the Army, and don't regret being deployed. Keep up the good service!

  8. well I served 8 years in the army, loved every minute of it. my brother was in field artillery also. the military is a great thing to be in. you get to see the world but remember when the time comes and your country calls don't go running away like some other folks do. automatically they start crying i cant do this my religion wont let me or its to dangerous well guess what that's what you signed up for, how do you think we got our freedom because thousands of our dead brothers and sisters in the military gave us that freedom.

anyways enough of that but yes if your happy in the military then stay in and be proud. AND THANK YOU FOR SERVING.......

  9. Hey, I served 5 years in the US Army and I don't regret my service for one second.  It was a great life experience, I made some lifelong friends, and I was able to pay for college all by myself after I got out.

Thank you very much for your service to our country.  I hope you have a great military career.  Don't ever second guess your decision to serve, just because some people talk trash about the US military.  Those people don't understand that the reason they can talk trash without repercussion is because many young men and women have fought and died for their freedom.

  10. I'm in the Army and I don't care.  As long as you are doing your job and not being more of a burden than a asset, it doesn't matter.  The question is, are you happy?
