Question:

Enlisting in the military drug use question?

I'm interested in joining the Navy after I graduate high school and I'm curious how enlistment would go if you have a drug history? You see, a few months ago I was on a field trip and was hanging out with someone who had weed in their pocket. That person ended up being searched by security guards and the marijuana was found. And I was there when all this happened. Unfortunately the security guards didn't pass an accurate story along to my school. I was called to the Vice Principal's office the next day and was questioned. He informed me and my mother that the other kid had been expelled and that since i knew he had it on him I would be suspended for 5 days, which I was. Later I when i saw my transcript i found out that the Vice Principal had put that I was suspended for Possession of drugs/alcohol and under the notes section put "was in the possession of marijuana on a field trip".

To get to the point, what will a recruiter say when he see's that i've been suspended for possession? I assume they would think that I use drugs, which isn't true. Could they turn me down over this?

I found this on a similar Yahoo question answer :

"YES YES YES!!!!! anything that sound bad or incriminating DENIY!!!! And when you get to the amnisty room at basic dont say it there either...My exhubby was in and a few people admited it there and got kicked out on the spot!!!! Deny anything Medical or drug related if you want to get in...that is from the mouth of a recruiter!!!"

That response scares me.

  1. your the wrong person for the military if you do drugs...wrong buisness

  2. First of all it happened as a minor so if you join after eighteen you don't have to worry about it and if there was no police record of it than don't even mention it all on your transcripts it says your scores and that's it so keep your mouth shut and don't pop when you go to Meps and you'll be fine!

  3. Since it is on your high school transcripts, you have to inform the recruiter.  It will be a little more work for him but you can get a waiver.  I wouldn't let it worry you too much.  Just be honest with the recruiter and he will tell you how to handle it.  I had to get a waiver for use when I entered the Navy and when they gave me the moment of truth, they asked if I had anything I had not already told them.  Well since I had a waiver I did not have to lie when I said I didn't.

  4. You will be fine You never were convicted of a crime So when they ask have you ever been you say NO and that is not a lie. My ex is in the navy and he was suspended for the same thing junior year. They could not do anything becouse he was not the one with the drugs.. also they will drug test you As long as you pass that you will be fine. My Husband now is also in the navy stationed at boot camp I asked him and he said that as long as there is not conviction and it was never in court its a He said She said thing and they will not even look at it. Good luck and congrats on joining.

  5. Call the recruiting office in your town anonymously and ask. They won't record your call and analyze your voice in order to hold this c**p against you, after all!

  6. You should be able to get in but may need a waiver. Tell him the truth but tell him that you don't use now and it never went to court.

Good luck in your Navy career.

  7. You need to talk to a recruiter and explain them what happened just as you've done here. From there they'll decide whether or they can help you.
