Enrico Battaglin to make his Grand Tour debut at the Giro d’ Italia 2012
Enrico Battaglin of Team Colnago-CSF is targeting the Giro d’ Italia as the biggest goal of his 2012 season. The cyclist will make his Grand Tour debut during the 2012 version of the Italian race starting next month.
He had a terrific past season and filled his bag with a number of victories.
He succeeded during the Trofeo Zssdi, GP San Giuseppe, Coppa Sabatini, second at the Giro del Medio Brenta, GP Capodarco and third at the Giro del Belvedere di Villa di Cordignano, Giro della Romagna.
The cyclist rode for Team Zalf Desiree Fior in 2008-11 seasons and penned a deal with Team Colnago-CSF Inox for the 2011 season.
The 22-year-old made his professional debut with Team Colnago-CSF Bardiani in the current season and helped the team with the podium spot at the Gran Premio di Lugano 2012.
He finished third during the 2012 version of the Swiss race, Eros Capecchi of Team Liquigas-Cannondale.
While commenting on the coming edition of the Giro, he told Gazzetta dello Sport, “I’m living it quite calmly myself but I know that there’s a bit of anticipation from the tifosi”.
He continued, “It’s certainly an objective to gain a lot of experience and I’ll look to save my energy for a couple of stages in particular where I look to do well”.
“I’m not ashamed to say that I’m going to the Giro to do well and I’ll look to seize the moment on the stages that are best suited to me. It’s been a positive start to the season. I haven’t won but I’ve been up there”.
Enrico forms the strong line-up of the UCI Professional Continental side Team Colnago-CSF Bardiani.
It has not performed to its standard in the 2012 season and the only first place finish by the team came through Marco Canola, during the 7th stage of the Tour de Langkawi.
The 95th edition of the Giro d’ Italia is scheduled from May 5-27. It will start from Herning and conclude in Milan.
All the 18 UCI World Tour Pro Tour teams have been automatically invited to the race. Four UCI Professional Continental teams invited through the wild card entries are: Androni Giocattoli, Colnago-CSF Inox, Farnese Vini-Selle Italia and Team NetApp.
