The Genoa President has revealed the reason behind the exit of the Rossoblu General Manager, and has stated his intention to sell the club.
Enrico Preziosi has revealed the stoy behind Pietro Lo Monaco's departure from Genoa, and has stated that the club executive was beginning to exceed his authority at the club and so had to be let go.
The Rossoblu chief bought the club in 2003, and has been acting as the CEO and President of the establishment since that time.
The Grifone patron brought in Lo Monaco to act as the CEO of the club, with the intention to hand over the control and the responsibilities of the club to the executive and rid himself of the everyday pressure.
However, they both had a falling out recently which has led the newly appointed executive to leave the club.
Preziosi insisted that Lo Monaco wanted to exercise powers beyond his authority, and revealed that agreement was always that he will handle the transfer business while the CEO will handle all the other businesses.
The apple of discord is reported to be the loan move of Mattia Perin, which was favoured by the President but opposed by the newly appointed executive.
While talking to the press, the Italian businessman said:
“I had always said that Perin had to go so as to play, because with Sebastien Frey as No 1 he would have been in the reserves and lost a year. The only negotiations in which Lo Monaco has demanded to dictate on were those for Mattia Destro. Siena redeemed 50 per cent of his contract and it cost us €2m more.”
Preziosi went on to reveal that he has had enough of the club and wants to sell Genoa to another buyer. The Rossoblu chief stated that keeping in mind the current state of the outfit; it seems unlikely that there will be a good buyer for the club in the market.
“I’m sick of this. I cannot wait to give it up. I’d rather be elsewhere than having to deal with football. At the moment I do not think that there is anyone willing to buy the club, unfortunately.” He added.
