Enrique Artavia Cedeno wins the final stage of the La Ruta de los Conquistadores 2012 and also claimed an overall victory at the race
Enrique Artavia Cedeno of Team CRC wins the final stage of the La Ruta de los Conquistadores 2012.
He took a total time of1 hour 47 minutes and 42 seconds and occupied the top podium position during the 70 kilometre chase to Limon.
Federico Ramirez Mendez fell 1 second short at the second position with Todd Wells, Alex Grant and Dennis Manuel Porras Murillo claiming the third, fourth and fifth positions in the respective order.
"I knew it would be hard from the start. As soon as they said go, it was like a full on 'cross race, with puddles and chaos," said Grant.
"It finally settled down after awhile, but those Economy Rent A Car guys started attacking. I had to cover a few attacks from them".
"The guys just attacked, attacked, attacked and on the long railroad bridge, the guy who won [Enrique] ran on the outside of the railroad tracks and got around me when I was leading," said Wells.
Milton Ramos, Moises Hernandez Amaya, Alexander Sanchez Calderon, Marco Perez Salguera and Damian Perrin achieved the next five spots during the final stage of the event.
Enrique Artavia Cedeno also managed to secure an overall victory at the race after his all-round performance during the three-day race.
Alex Grant finished second with Dennis Manuel Porras Murillo securing the third position after the La Ruta de los Conquistadores final general classifications.
Likewise, Monique Pua Mata of USA wins the Elite Women category of the race after yet another convincing victory at the contest.
It took her just 2 hours, 6 minutes and 37 seconds to cross the finish-line as she put a lead of 11 minutes and 5 seconds over Samantha Philipps of Great Britain.
Cinthya Coto Elizondo, Ligia Madrigal Moya and Christine De Mezerville secured the third, fourth and fifth positions in the respective order.
Monique Pua Mata managed to bag an overall victory at the race after the La Ruta de los Conquistadores Elite Women Final General Classifications after her consistent performance throughout the race.
Pablo Sanchez Rodriguez, Edgar Zumbado and Alfredo Peralta Collado wins the Master Men 30-39 category of the event while Fernando Salazar, Scott Rake and Enrique Saborio Pozuelo wins the Master men 40-49 event.
