Liverpool defender, Jose Enrique voiced his support in favour of the new manager Brendan Rodgers, as he looks to implement the ‘tiki-taka’ playing style at Anfield.
After taking over the reins of the Merseyside club, the Northern Irishman made known his intention of introducing a possession dominating and short passing playing philosophy at Anfield – a style he successfully executed at his former club, Swansea City.
Spanish giants, Barcelona are often credited for introducing this eye-catching playing technique, now termed as tiki-taka. By adopting this style, the Blaugrana lifted 14 titles under former manager, Pep Guardiola, while Spain, which comprises majority
of players from Barcelona, lifted three successive major trophies.
Many believe the model cannot be successfully implemented in England, given the physical nature of the game in the Premier League.
However, the Spanish International, who has featured in La Liga with Villarreal, insisted that the exotic method can be successfully executed in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749.
He explained that at first, the idea seemed impractical even in Spain, but it has now become the cornerstone of their game.
While taking to the reporters, the 26-year old said: “In Spain six years ago, people said you couldn't win with 'tiki-taka' and small players. At the moment http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Barcelona-c38604 win everything. I hope this is the future of football rather than just kick the ball to
the striker. In http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Spain-c3011 many teams play like this. Of course, it depends on the quality of the players, but we are trying.”
Enrique joined http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 from Newcastle United in August last year for a 7 million pounds transfer fee. However, since then, he has failed to make an impression in the Premier League, and has been considered by many as one of the unsuccessful signings of
last season.
Having put the previous term’s disappointment behind him, the Spaniard claimed that he will only improve under the new gaffer, and will look to play further up the pitch in the coming campaign.
“This manager is going to be very good for us. I know I will improve with him… I am only 26, so I can get better. I also hope I can score some goals.”
