Liverpool defender, Jose Enrique, vented his delight upon scoring his first goal for the Merseyside club on Saturday.
The Spanish International netted in last of the Reds goals in the team’s emphatic 3-0 win over Wigan Athletic at Anfield.
The 26-year old, who arrived at Merseyside from Newcastle United last year, was in scintillating form at the weekend, as he also provided a wonderful assist for Luis Suarez to set up the second goal. Consequently, he was named Man of the Match after the
game.
The win was just the Reds fourth in league matches at home this year. It lifted them to the eleventh spot in the table, stretching their recent unbeaten run to 7 games now.
Although Enrique was over the moon to score his maiden Liverpool goal, he said that what mattered more to him was that it helped his side secure all three points.
The defender also claimed that their commanding performance at the weekend has lifted the downbeat morale of the unit, and hoped that it will kick-start a sequence of wins for them.
“I am very happy - firstly not for my goal, but for the three points. I think we are playing well this season, but we deserve more points. We have to keep playing like this because then I think the points will come,” he told the club’s official website.
“The most important thing is another three points. I am happy about my goal, but it's about the team.”
Goals prompt celebrations and since the Spaniard hasn’t been able to get too much on the scoresheet, he admitted on being a little bit confused on how to react after slotting one in on Saturday.
“To be honest, the first thing I wanted to do was put my thumb to my mouth, but then I didn't know what to do because I don't really score!” he added.

The former Newcastle player went on to praise the Uruguayan sensation for his inspirational presence in the team, underlining that his recent form spoke at length about his calibre.
