http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 defender, Jose Enrique, is confident his side can secure a Champions League berth this season if they continue with their current form.
Brendan Rodgers’ troops, who were once languishing in the relegation zone, have shown marked improvement over the months, gradually pushing themselves up the Premier League’s pecking order.
Their 3-2 win over West Ham United last week allowed them to enter into the top half of the table for the first time this season. The Merseyside outfit have collected 22 points from their 16 fixtures thus far, and are now only four points adrift of the fourth
spot. Besides, the team have got a relatively easy fixture up next against a stuttering Aston Villa on Saturday, and will then play host to Fulham next week.
After having seen the Reds crawl their way up in the table, the Spanish International is optimistic about their prospects of qualifying for the elite European event.
The 26-year old challenged his side to break into the top-four before January by making the most of their fixtures against the easier opponents. He also observed that the top-flight teams have docked points against the mid-table outfits, something which
has worked to their advantage.
“We have two games at home now and we'll try to win them both. We're just four points behind the Champions League places, and we have a big chance to be there before January finishes,” he told the reporters.
“We have beaten good teams this season. The teams at the top have been losing a lot of games, so we have a chance.”
Enrique, who was earlier issued a warning by manager, Brendan Rodgers, to improve his game or risk losing his place, has been in sparkling form. However, he suffered a hamstring injury against the Hammers in the previous match, which forced him to limp off
the field inside the first half.
Although the defender is reported to have shown encouraging signs of improvement, he admitted he remains doubtful for the Reds duel with the Villans.
“I am OK but I don't know if I'll be ready for the game. I've had some treatment, and I hope I can be fit,” he added.
