http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 defender, Jose Enrique, believes his side can still mount a challenge for a top-four finish this season.
The Spanish International also called upon the Reds to bounce back from their 3-1 defeat against Stoke City this week, and wants them to secure all three points when they visit Queens Park http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Rangers-c40314 on Sunday.
The Merseyside outfit currently rest at the tenth place in the Premier League’s standings after 19 matches, 8 points shy of the fourth-ranked Tottenham Hotspur.
The team, which finished at a dismal eighth place in the prevenient term, have not competed in the Champions League in the last three seasons.
After having apparently recovered from a slow start, the Reds have now suffered 2 losses in their last three matches. A couple of weeks earlier, they were stunned 3-1 at Anfield by an Aston Villa which shipped 12 goals in their next two matches.
Nonetheless, Enrique is still confident that his side can pip their rivals into finishing inside the CL slots this campaign.
The 26-year old bemoaned their slack performance against the Potters on Wednesday, accusing them of taking the steam out of the engine after claiming an early lead.
He also stressed the Reds to show more maturity after getting into match winning positions, and to quickly learn from their mistakes.
“I thought after the penalty we were going to win the game but overall they played better than us and we didn’t deserve the three points,” he told the reporters.
“We need more experience and need to show more character in these type of games. You can see we have quality players and we have a good squad, but we need to fight for every point we play for if we want to be in the top four.”
Liverpool are set to take on the bottom-placed QPR at the Loftus Road Stadium on Sunday. Harry Redknapp’s men have only been able to collect a single win out of half of their season’s work.
Despite the apparent struggles of their opponents, the defender called upon his side not to allow complacency to creep into their games, as no fixture is easy in the Premier League.
