Entering Coast Guard Drug Test

Question

I am thinking about joining the coast guard and have been talking to a recruiter. I am not gonna be able to join untill December and was wondering when i would be giving a drug test? Will it be when i fill out my medical history paperwork or right before i go to boot camp? I just want to make sure that im all clean i used to smoked pot alot but not anymore and dont want to ruin this opportunity.

Shave all the air from all over your body, just in case they want to do a hair sample analysis.

You will do your first of thousands of drug tests the day you go to MEPS to do your physical.  You will also get tested the day you ship to boot camp and the day you arrive at boot camp.  You fill out the medical paperwork before you go to MEPS to do your physical.  It is hard to get into the Coast Guard because they are so small so if you think you are just going to walk into the CG recruiting office in December and leave shortly afterwards you are wrong. You need to go now and maybe they will have a place for you in December.  The drug test the military uses is the best in the world so if you have a little pot problem you better be clean for about 6 months to guarantee you ae clean enough to pass the test.  Also while on active duty you also get tested ALL THE TIME.  I have been randomly tested three times in one week.  Time to grow up an give up the drugs for real.  You say you have but you need to know that it is zero tolerance in the military and they will kick you back home on a bus in a second if you pop positive.  Good luck and hopefully you make the most of the CG.

you can tested random;ly while in DEP as well as the day you ship off to MEPS and AGAIN the day to get to Boot Camp.  Randomly after that..and you can guarantee getting tested after every major holiday.

First, if you decide to enlist then you will go to MEPS.

That's the FIRST time you get a drug test, urinalysis, blood work, Breathalyzer(alcohol).

The second time you can be tested is anytime your recruiter wishes to test you during DEP.

The other time you get tested is the 2nd time you go to MEPS, or when you go to boot camp. During boot camp you can be tested at any time. From  there after, any time as well.

You have to have not had any illegal drugs for a minimum of 6 months before you go to take your qualification physical.  If you have smoked pot for the last 6 months the test will absolutely show it.

I was in the USCG before they started all this testing but in the reserves afterward, You will take at least 100 drug tests during a four year hitch. many of them during boot camp. You will take a minimum of 4 per year and as many as 12/year while on active duty.
