Hi i will be traveling to the US from Toronto for a theme park (Cedar Point), and I was wondering what documents I would need to cross the border and I am taking my brother along with me, who is a minor, and I was wondering what docs he would need.

Thanks in advance.

  1. There are a few points you need to keep in mind about the letter giving you permission to take your brother into the US.  It should be signed by both your parents if both parents are named on your brother's birth certificate (he will need his birth certificate for identification).  If there has been a divorce  and you cannot get the signatures of both your parents, and one parent has custody, then you need a copy of the document that gives one parent custody.  It would be a good idea if both parents were available by phone when you are crossing the border in case the border officials want to call them to make sure everything is ok.

If you are driving you will need either your passport, or a government issued photo ID such as your driver's license and your birth certificate to prove citizenship.  If you plan to fly you must have a passport.

  2. You both need to have your Canadian Passports with you.

You may also need to have a letter signed by your brothers' parents stating that they know you are taking the trip and have it signed by a notary.

  3. You can print the letter here, his parents should sign by a notary public. Keep two copies in case you need it.
