  1. chex mix, unsalted, original, not seasoned  and get some raw wood from a hobby shop, soft wood and let your rat clean his teeth and trim them at the same time

  2. theres an awsome site for cool toy ideas

    http://www.dapper.com.au/toys.htm

i've made some and my rat(Kiwi) loves them

  3. Wilkos do little rat treats that are ring shaped.

Bread a hole through a piece of bread and put that on it.

Perhaps if you have more than one rat, give them a hard boiled egg between them. Or if you have just one, then a bit of egg.

For other entertainment I have a wooden all-in-one ladder, seesaw-swing and rope bridge. You can get them pretty cheaply off ebay.

Most pet websites have swing toys and ladders that will keep your rats occupied. www.equinecaninefeline.com has some nice toys. The flex-e-fun-nels and other SuperPet Fun-Nels are amazing for out-of-cage fun; my rats love them!

Use the carboard tube from a finished kitchen roll, you could lay it straight in their cage or cut holes in it for a little hide-and-seek play tunnel! Don't use the tube from a toilet roll though; the toilet roll, to frangrance it, usually has some kind of oil to scent it. This can go on to the tube, and voila, onto the animal; coat damage and ingestion of oils. I know this would probably be a rare event, but it's possible. Besides, kitchen rolls are longer=more fun!

Ferplast make some nice in-cage tubes. They are good quality, just like the SuperPet ones (Who are also made by Ferplast!), unlike may tunnels; they have a great, wide area and ventilation to lighten the tube and provide fresh air. They do clear ones too. http://www.google.co.uk/products?q=Ferpl...

I have a little wooden log with holes cut out of it, I connect this up to a play stix arch up against the bars so my rats can hide in their cage.

Many bird toys, believe it or not, are great for ratties too!

http://www.google.co.uk/products?q=Treat... A roll around ball; as the rat rolls the ball, treats fall out!

http://www.petplanet.co.uk/product.asp?d... A rope swing for rats!

www.fuzzbutt.co.uk Fabbydoodleness hammocks and snooze cubes for fuzzies! (I use these, they rock!)

http://www.google.co.uk/products?q=Bored... Just nice little boredom breaker tunnels.

http://www.google.co.uk/products?q=chube... An affordable toy for small animals!

I have some play stix in my rats cage; I have a Furet plus rat cage which has wider bars than most cages, so I can fix them onto the bars. You can bend them into huts, bridges, shelves, ledges, and much more! They are chewable , affordable, and natural. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?V...

Hope all the links help; I've picked out some great products but there are many more I haven't covered.

Hope you and your rat have fun!
