Question:

Entertainment in America?

I hear so often people complain of the lack in money (Low Salaries, expensive merchandise/expensive groceries; Gas, etc.), is it not possible that it in fact, the government may not be the sole cause for this? That in fact, if you think of how much revenue goes to the Entertainment Business (Movies/Sports/etc.) as a whole, the net profit of one individual in the industry makes more/same/close to the budget of an entire State? There has to be something wrong with that picture, and on top of that, the money doesn't circulate back down, so all the money we sink into them is lost. What are your thoughts on the topic?

  1. MOVIES.

  2. People use entertainment as an escape. The low salaries and expensive goods is a result of corporate greed. I understand that the entire point of a business is to make money, but modern CEO's are ridiculous.

  3. I like to be entertained but I think too many ppl put too much emphasis on the extent to which they do so. Everyone wants to make money but yes I think when you have football players who makes millions of dollars because they happen to be good at a sport and got lucky enough to make it and then you have ppl that can barely get by in the same county  there is a problem. One that I don't know how to solve. You can't take entertainment away because everyone needs an outlet. I think that you feel that there isn't any real good in it but I think there is some. It depends on what you're talking about. I think ppl just need to start being more responsible for their own actions and less ignorant about the way things work in their own country before they complain about things. If you don't have enough money to pay your rent or mortgage, utility bills, and other daily needs, then you probably don't have enough money to have have 500 cable channels or enough money to order a fight on hbo or to spend on anything else that is considered an extra luxury. It's all about priorities. Those are my thoughts on the topic.

  4. I think if they make a movie/product that's good enough for millions of people to see/use it then they deserve it.  I mean paying $8-10 for a movie ticket isn't really that expensive.  Food products and stuff like that have too many competitors and there really isn't a clear "best" so that's why they don't make as much money.

  5. Well, of course the government is not the sole cause of anything except the Iraq war (sorry, wanted to get that in!).

Entertainment is at addictive levels.  Rome, which fell in ancient times, was addicted to entertainment, especially the violent sort, and todays sports seem to be getting more violent.

But back to the specific topic.  Entertainers are grossly overpaid, yes.  But not too many people complain.

What  the government is culpable of, in my opinion, is an absolute economic rape of the middle class.  And we have only begun to feel the impact of that.

  6. This is just to comment on Bill's statement.  How can you say someone makes too much or too little?  Ever hear of supply and demand?  People who make min wage are the only over-paid people in my opinion.  It's could the intersection of the supply and demand curves is what you should make.  When the government puts a price floor of which you can not make less then, the chances are it will be too high and lead to a surplus of labor supplied.  Otherwise known as unemployment.
