I have this on my recond from about 5-6 years ago. It's not a felony and I've had no problems going Seattle- Victoria in '06 by boat but I'm a little nervous crossing the border by car.

  1. It is kind of unpredictable.  The cheapest is IF the conviction and any associated punishment was finished over 5 years ago, you could hope to be "deemed rehabilitated" by the customs officer when crossing.  I believe you would be likely to get in.  But there isn't accurate detail in your question.  Like if it was 4 years ago, and you received a year's probation, it is too recent.

or for a more definite answer, you could pay the fee and fill out the forms and have your answer down on paper.

  2. The answer to your question is not clear cut as you did not say what your offence was.  Even if it is not considered a felony in the US, it may be considered a felony in Canada, and it is Canada's law that would apply.  Depending on what the charge was, you may enter with no problem, but you may not.  A sure way to get it taken care of for the future is to apply for a Minister's Approval of Rehabilitation.   Here are links that may be of some help to you.  Best of luck with getting it sorted out.
