Entries set for the two divisions for the $100,000 Oceanside Stakes
The seventy-third edition of the Del Mar season will take off with the $100,000 Oceanside Stakes. The traditional opening day’s feature that is raced at the seaside track has attracted eighteen three-year-old entrants. This year it will be the first time after 2008 that the race will be broken into two divisions.
Another clause for the participation in the event includes no victory in the $50,000 sweepstakes in 2012.
The first division of the Oceanside Stakes is highlighted by the participation of Boat Trip, Blingo and Chips All In.
The centre of attention for the second division is the Peter Miller trained, Majestic City.
Harlan’s Holiday’s three-year-old colt our of mare, Turning Wheel, Boat Trip, is in for striking a hat-trick through the first division of the Oceanside Stakes.
Michael Pender trained won the maiden special weight with J. Valdivia on 24th March, 2012 at Santa Anita over 6 ½ furlongs. The Kentucky bred broke free from the maiden in a minute and :11.92 seconds while Canuletmedowneasy settled as the runner-up while Currahee took on the third slot.
The three-year-old struck a back to back on 22nd June, 2012 at Betfair Hollywood Park in the Tsunami Slew Stakes over a mile under the guidance of jockey, J. Valdivia.
This distance he raced through in a minute and :34.68 seconds.
The other winning prospect for the first division is Artie Schiller’s three-year-old bay gelding out of mare, Wassifa, who has raced three out of five times ever since the new season started.
The Kentucky bred ended sixth in the seasonal debut on 10th March, 2012 at Santa Anita over 1 1/16 miles. The race was won by Creative Cause who won the race in a minute and :41.84 seconds while Bodemeister had to settle as the runner-up.
The three-year-old trained by John A. Shirreffs posted his seasonal debut success on 20th April, 2012 at Santa Anita over 1 1/8 miles on turf. Riding with M. Smith, he won the race in a minute and :47.58 seconds. Taking the second position after Blingo was, Vibrato Jazz while the third place was filled in by, Buffalo Billy.
Capturing the first division of the Oceanside Stakes will give the three-year-old Kentucky bred his second success of the season.
The third riding sensation for the first half of the Stakes is Chips All In, trained by Jeff Mullins. North Light’s three-year-old colt out of mare, Maria’s Mirage, has been active thrice during the season, but did not wait for a fourth or further chance to grab the seasonal success.
He won the Pasadena Stakes on 23rd March, 2012 at Santa Anita after missing the Grade 2 Robert B. Lewis Stakes on 4th February, 2012 at Santa Anita over 1 1/16 miles.
His seasonal success got settled in a minute and :34.56 seconds in companionship with jockey, A. Quinonez.
He then finished fourth in Tsunami Slew Stakes on 22nd June, 2012 at Betfair Hollywood Park against Boat Trip.
The most celebrated entry for the other division is City Zip’s three-year-old colt, Majestic City out of mare, It’schemistrybaby.
He has raced nine times during the career and out of those starts the first three have been lined up as a hat-trick. Since then the three-year-old has not won a race. He won the Grade 3 Hollywood Juvenile Championship on 17th July, 2011 at Betfair Hollywood Park over six furlongs.
How many of them will pass in attaching further victory strings, cannot be said as yet.
