so I go to UC Davis and will be riding my bike to and from campus every day. i am looking around for an entry level road bike thats cheap, but won't fall apart on me. the two I've found so far that look pretty sound are the:

Dawes lightning 1000 http://www.bikesdirect.com/products/dawes/lt1000.htm

and the tonino Lamborghini classica

http://www.abikestore.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=lamborghini-classica&Category_Code=&Store_Code=abs

basically i am looking to see which one is a better bike, but if anyone has any useful info on other bikes that are good i would appreciate it.

  1. I have come across these Lamborghini bikes before, -  its' a shame that they have opted to fall at the lower end of the market!

They are not even entry level but  . . .

Bearing in mind your budget, The Lamborghini looks better!

EDIT: Mike01 you have made sniping remarks about me on a couple of occasions, Your experience and knowledge of cycling is apparently very limited and superficial. Although all opinons are welcome - don't challenge me on technicalities until you know better!

I will just restate that, at this level, the Lambo 'Looks' better than the Dawes, although from a practical aspect there is nothing in it! and these bikes will perform pretty much the same.

  2. The Dawes is better out of the two, and unlike the first post, 2200 components is ok for a starting level. Basically its just old casting for Sora components they don't use any more. I think you would be better off going with the wellington 2.0, as it has a sora rear derailer instead of a 2200. The dawes though would be a awesome commuter bicycle with the more comfortable (edit)angle and the adjustable handle height. If your looking for something under $400, go for the dawes or the windsor 2.0. Don't get the lambo.

Yes, Mr G would buy the lambo. He likes the pretty name and the polished aluminum. Also, compare Sora and 2200 rear derailers and tell me the difference, or even 2200 and tiagra, not to much. 2200 is entry level equipment.. just older designed stuff that shimano uses. Dawes is an entry level bike, the lambo is not.

Mr. G., Of the two bikes listed, the dawes is better...

  3. The Dawes is the better bike, make sure you get the right size.

  4. i am unfamiliar with the lambo bike or its retailer (or its compnents for that matter). i have heard good things about bikes direct from people whos opinions i trusted. all of the equipment on the dawes is fairly standard for an entry level road bike, i cannot say the same for the lambo. this means that should a problem arrise parts can be repaired or replace easily by your local bike shop.

    good luck
