  1. The climatic factors affecting growth of plants are temperature, precipitation ( water ) and light.

    Temperature:

Low temperatures shorten the growing season

Different plant species have different optimum temperature ranges

A climate with warm days ( increase the photosynthetic rate ) and cool nights ( reduce the respiration rate ) is good for plant growth.

    Precipitation:

Biochemically important for a lot of physiological processes like photosynthesis f.e. or gases, minerals, and other materials entering and transporting in plant cells

Maintaining turgor ( internal pressure ) for stability etc

    Cell enlargement

Water deficiency hinders growth of all plants not adapted to desert conditions f.e.

Plants in water stress have limited growth and reduced photosynthetic activity

    Light:

Ultimate source of energy and the most important ecological factor affecting plant growth.

Changes in day length  activates or stops physiological processes initiating growth and flowering

( adaptions long day, short day plants f.e.)
