  1. i worry a lot about the enviornment, too. but you can't think so largely or it gets really overwhelming. and to be honest, global warming may or may not exist. there really isnt enough info to prove it. so just try not to freak about it yet.

in the mean time, do small things to help out:

    recycle

    re-use plastics

pick up trash from the ground

    avoid styrofoam cups

turn your heater down 2 degrees, even if its cold, put on a sweater

open a curtain instead of using the lamps

turn off and unplug appliances when theyre not in use. even if its something you use everyday, such as a blow dryer, when you're done, unplug it, because if you dont, its still using energy (computers are a big waster of energy, too, turn it off before you go to bed)

there are so many things you can do, but you have to stick to stuff you can control. global warming is GLOBAL. no matter how hard you try, its too much for one person, or group of persons. (if it exists... i really am not sure)

check out the site below, and search for other energy saving tips online. check out stuff going on around your community and get involved.

    good luck!!

  2. If possible plant a tree, or even a bush. Minimize use of water, switch off unwanted lights, use small burner stoves, and try to pool cars or take public transport wherever possible.

It is good to be aware. You will automatically avoid waste.

  3. Shop Locally. By that I mean, buy locally made goods by local people and don't shop at big block stores.

Stop spending time watching the News. The media is manipulated by a government eager to promote consumerism.

  4. Being scared is understandable at times. But it is important to try to live in the most efficient way as possible. There seems to be lots of factors going on at once and it is difficult to keep it in perspective. The main thing we can do is communicate with each other in order to keep trying to find solutions. Maybe every one could tell there bosses that one day a week they want to do their paperwork at home. Saving about 15% in car fuel. I gave up sitting on the M25 motorway for 4 hours a day years ago and am lucky to be able to work from home. I know others arent so lucky but with the interenet and remote pc facilities big business needs to start to rethink its affect on energy useage in every way it can. Maybe its time governments offered free vehicle tax for electric or hybrid vehicles (put their leaderships on the line ) start leading instead of chasing the popular vote. Unfortunateley i am resolved to thinking that the fat cats (who lobby government) that are helping to cause this dont care. They must be made to care. But dont be scared because that leads to unclear thinking. Stay positive, because our collective intelligence must find a way out of this. People who denounce GW are too scared to face it, so you have courage to face it, and do whatever you can in your way. Well done . Some Humanity will survive the next period of climate change (caused by us or otherwise). But it will be unpleasant because there are too many of us to feed even with the resources we have at the moment. But if a world government was established to give this problem some long term effort with clear analysis of the problems and relentless pursuite of workable solutions who knows.

  5. I recomend you watch the movie: "An Inconvienient Truth" by Al Gore.

That should help you out and explin what is going on

To be honest I am pretty scared.

  6. Don't get scared; just get informed.  You can do lots of things even now as you learn bigger and better ways to get involved.  What can you do right now? Turn off all the unnecessary lights in your house.  Ask your mom and dad to insulate the water heater and attic.  Ride your bike or take the bus instead of asking your parents to drive you places.  Unplug appliances while they are not being used--like the microwave, tv, computer.  I unplug everything except the refrigerator and washer and dryer when I'm not home.  It's slightly inconvenient but saves a great deal of energy.  Ask your parents if you can adjust the cooling button on the fridge and freezer to be less cold. In the winter if it's cold in your house, wear sweaters instead of turning up the heat.  In the summer, try to use the air conditioner less.  Get a clothes line and hang your clothes out to dry.  Re-use plastic bags instead of buying new ones all the time.  Try to buy glass instead of plastic.  Recycle, recycle, recycle.  Start a compost pile and a garden.  Plant some trees, with your parents permission of course.  There's a lot you can do while you learn to do more.  When you get older, buy a hybrid car, and build a house with solar heat, or convert an older house to solar energy....For right now, why not pick 3-4 of these suggestions and go do them.  And good for you that you are interested enough to ask.

  7. The only thing that is endangering humans is our inability to keep IT in our pants, we make too many kids. We have cultures that are facing real problems due to extinction and all we seem to be concerned with is how easily we can help the environment without it inconveniencing us!

First thing first, do a trash audit, look at your trash, pay attention to what you throw away, more then likely most of it can either be composted or recycled, you shouldn't throw everything in the same bin. I know this is a pain but if you provide other bins for the sperated stuff it becomes second nature. Also get cloth shopping bags and stop getting plastic bags, if you only have a few groceries, carry them, I know the other kids don't do this but who wants to be like them anyway!

I remember when I first started bringing my cloth bags to the grocery store, they looked at me like I was crazy, now they don't.

Just keep eliminating all the excess trash until all you are left with is inert trash, basically trash that can sit for as long as it has to until it is recycled and it won't stink.

I have gotten it down to where I have less then one plastic gorcery store size amount of trash a week, these are things that I cannot either compost or recycle, usually these are things that I don't choose to have, like styrofoam and the like.

First I suggest recycling all your plastic and glass, even the little wrappers from the fake cheese, everything that is plastic and glass. Then I would look into composting your food scraps and then look at your trash and decide what you can live without.

    I hope this helps.
