Okay. Here's the thing! three quarters of our lawn (Which by the way is huge) is weeds (mostly dandylion), which only leaves one quarter of it to be grass. It looks awful! And we can't pick them all. It takes forever. Trust me I've tried! And they even grow back even if I get the whole root out. I NEED HELP. So what I'm looking for is environementaly friendly weed killer. If there is such thing! You know something that kills the weeds, but isn't going to harm the environement. If you know what I could use please let me know. But I need to be able to get it somewhere in Vancouver Island. Anywhere like Courtenay, Comox, Campbell River, Powell River, Vancouver Or Nanaimo. Thanks for all your help.

Sarah!

  1. Two options.  One is to mix salt with water, dissolve and spray.  Another is about 3 parts water to 1 part vinegar and spray.  Both work well.

  2. Sarah,

Chemical methods are safe for you and the environment when you follow the directions on the bottle.  Chemcials are proven to work better at just about everything and in most cases are cheaper and faster.  If you want the weeds Dead Spray them with Ortho Weed B Gone Max.  You will see results within a day or two and a complete kill should take place within a few weeks.   Then you can dig the weeds out as the plant will be killed to the root.  Then as you get more killed you can overseed your yard with a premium grass seed such as Scotts premium grass seed.  I'd use Kentucky Bluegrass because it spreads by an undergound system of Rhizomes which means it will spread and fill in bare spots over time.
