  1. As you are aware, man, in his selfish pursuit for materialistic comforts, has been destroying nature and is over-exploiting natural resources at an alarming rate and without concern as to how of our children and grand children will be able to survive without the basic necessities of life.  Man is, for ever embarking on development and expansion of his dominion and chasing away the other living beings like wildlife, animals, feathered friends and flora and fauna from their natural habitats without a care to share this little world and without considering them also as equal partners. This has created an imbalance.  The ubiquitous house sparrow has almost disappeared from Bengaluru city in India. similar is the case with other rare and exotic species of flora and fauna anywhere and everywhere in the world.  I can hear and feel the heart wrenching cry – WE ALSO WANT TO LIVE - by the animals, birds and bees and I am happy that I have reached out to them and tried to wipe their tears and provided launched a programme called "bring back to bangalore" to enable them to come and settle down without fear or favour.

          2.  I feel that my little effort carried out on a pilot basis in Gayatri Devi Park  has widely been acclaimed by press and electronic media and many Resident Welfare Associations are implementing this in parks in their areas.  It is my earnest desire that this first of its kind animals and avian friendly project can be replicated anywhere and everywhere in our country and all over the world, with the help of like minded people.

          3. The project envisages provision of necessary basic amenities and facilities like fresh water for drinking and bird baths facilities, food-court-like environment,  provision of different types of nests for different species of birds and animals, prepared in consultation with ornithologists, bird specialists, periodical replacement or surgery of old trees, bushes etc., with flower/fruit and nuts bearing variety of plants, bushes and trees since land in urban areas has become exorbitantly costly  and we must use the available land and soil in a judicious manner especially to cater to our animals and avian partners who have a right to live like human beings. On a crash basis,  more than 1000 fruit/flower bearing bushes, tree species have been planted in more than 10 parks in west of Bangalore. In a few parks have been developed exclusively with herbal, aromatic and medical plants so that the leaves, flowers, fruits and nuts can be consumed by wild life, animals, birds, bees since they have an extraordinarya perception of which tree leaf or fruit or nut is good for their health.

            4.  School children and citizens are being educated as to how to create a friendly environment and how to take care of the infrastructure provided for wild life, animals and birds.  They are also being educated about the species of trees that exist in their localities and on how to take care of them.

           5. Since children are the best ambassadors of nature and communication, periodical group visits/trips to parks and forest areas for school children along with their teachers have been planned –

    (a) For bird watching and for creating a data bank of species of animals and birds that exist in a given area;

    (b) To study ecology and how to protect, preserve and reduce over-exploitation of existing natural resources;

    (c) For  protection of environment from global warming;

    (d) How to reduce emission of green house gases by increasing greenery that act as carbon sinks;

    (e) How to practice austerity and reduce consumption of power and water;

          6.  Formation and setting up of novel Green Police has attracted a number of techies who are nature lovers and it is heartening to note that they are taking active part in periodical programmes.

          7. This project has become a Government funded project duly supported by Mr. N.L. Narendra Babu, popular  local Politicall eader .and an astute Environmentalist, email: nela.narendrababu@indiatimes.com.  His effort has been highly commended by the world famous PeTA.org  " People for Ethical Treatment of Animals" and a certificate of recognition has been issued in May 2008 by PeTA India.

        8. Such efforts are required to be launched everywhere in the world so that we can share this little world of ours and make the wildlife, animals, birds, bees feel at home and stop being cruel to them.  This way we can preserve and protect the natural resources, carbon sinks, flora and fauna at grassroots level mail to vkumar_m@yahoo.com
