Question:

Environmental Pollution Experiment Ideas...?

In ecology class we have the oppurtunity to perform an experiment in which we analyze the school's effect on the environment. Out back we have a half retention, half clean pond with a concrete divider in it, lots of grass, trees, plant life... and other water sources and such nearby.... I was wondering if anyone had any good ideas for experiments to test how much we are polluting the surrounding area. At the minute i'm playing around with the idea for testing different samples of the water for nitrite, nitrate, ammonia, pH, and such... and comparing the results but other than that i'm stuck. Any help/brainstorming would be much appreciated!

  1. Before I read your "details" section, I was thinking that you should check the PH levels and such. Decomposition tests of tissues in soil samples is nice too.

  2. How about comparing how a plant grows at the school and in a forest-type environment?
