Try John Muir or Sierra Club.  He founded the first true environment awareness club in the early 1900s.  That should fill up several pages for you.  Good luck, Jed.

The environmental movement started with government trying to improve conditions for commerce and people.  One of the earlier "environmental" laws banned the use of peat coal in London, 1800's.

The contemporary environmental movement (1970's -- ) began with the counter cultural movement of the 1960's.

The Sierra Club, Ralf Nader, Natural Resources Defense Council and others advocate groups are prominent in advancing environmental issues today.
