  1. Environmental Technologies do not just apply to energy production, but also to energy conservation. Supply solutions and Demand solutions.

I have just installed 8 LED lights in my kitchen. On the practical side of light, I went from 2000 lumens per bulb to 1600 lumens per element, but that reduction was minor compared to the 50 watt halogens I took out to the new 3 watt Cree LEDs. I went from 400 watts down to 24! (Yes I'm bragging) The bulbs cost me $45 each, but the reduction in consumption and the reduction in Air conditioning (400 watts get pretty hot!) will give me a fairly quick payback.

It is technologies like this which will reduce the demand for new power and will allow new technology to replace the old. Lighting technology and Climate control technology will dramatically reduce our demand. It is important to consider, that the goal of advancement is not to revert civilization to a pre-industrial state, but to improve life and lessen our impact on our World.

    Good Luck!

  2. Nuclear power, actually useful (unlike wind and solar which can't replace fossil fuels).

  3. A topic not a lot consider a "new" technology: eco-friendly furniture. Think of the process and materials used to make furniture. First off: where have the materials come from (if they came from say China or India, then they are just adding more CO2 in the air). Also, think of where the wood has come from; if it has come from an endangered forest. Also think of the chemicals used when making the fabric and materials: they release toxic fumes which pose dangers to both the environment and human health.

Although this isnt a new technology, it is a greener change, a revision,  in our old ways of producing and manufacturing furniture.

    Search online regarding eco-friendly furniture.

    Hope this helped!

  4. during the summer?

  5. i) Bio-Digesters - Ferment waste and produce methane which is captured and used as a fuel. Methane is a potent greenhouse gas and by capturing it it minimises climate change effects as will as saving energy.

ii) Low input transport such as the bicycle or the canal boat - How much of our resources are we saving by using a bike or boat instead of a car?

iii) Combined Heat and Power - Uisng waste heat from electricity generation to heat homes instead of letting it disperse into the atmosphere

  6. There are so many.  Here's one:

Cities and counties around the US are installing plasma arc gasification plants at their landfills.  This eliminates the need to bury trash and saves the land for other uses.  The plants generate energy from burning trash, and have no harmful emissions.  They also produce hydrogen, which can be used to fuel vehicles with fuel-cell engines, helping to cure air pollution and the greenhouse gas problem.
