How is soil erosion and spoilage of landscape interrelated?

Soil erosion affects the landscape in many ways.  Think about the Grand Canyon.  That canyon was the work of thousands of years of erosion.  Riverbeds are also the effect of soil erosion.  

  Farmers may have problems if their croplands are ruined through desetification because that makes the land even more susceptible to erosion.  Nutrients will not be able soak into the soil and the dirt will be highly compacted.  If it as to rain, the water would have no where to go and would erode the soil away instead of being soaked up.
