Environmentalism...I have to do a letter to editor(roughly 150 words)to jonah's goldberg "The church of green"

  2. When there is not a clear central authority that everyone acknowledges, opponents can present as the views of the nebulous group any inane proposition put forth by anyone identifying self as speaking as a part of the nebulous group.

    This is of course the opposite of a religion where everyone recites from the same book of common prayer.  It is like 340 different denominations all claiming to be the group telling the whole truth as given from on high.

    Environmentalists are a blend of the two forms of religion. There are some acknowledged high priests, people often quoted and so their sayings are the book of common prayer. Meanwhile we have a lot of protestants, people who have their own views and many of them willing to share them.

    Well, that is true of any political movement, be it left, right, green, or Christian fundamentalism.

    People do tend to reuse things that have public currency because they convey what many already accept. That is not unique to environmentalism.
