  1. the latter of course. try comparing it to the option to spill your garbage on the living room carpet instead of a city dump, where some is recycled and most is buried.

  2. Air disperses burnt fuel emissions whereas raw oil on the sea water creates an oil slick.

If the fuel is burnt properly, there are low emissions since most is consumed in the combustion. The atmosphere will receive less than five percent of the fuel as emissions.

The main fuel bi-product ,added to the atmosphere, by the engines, is excess heat.

      The additional heat causes global-warming.

The other major problem, often overlooked is the sheer consumption of oxygen in the usual combustion engines.

Air burnt during fuel usage, depletes the oxygen by about fifty times the amount of the actual carbon dioxide emissions.

The engine adds Carbon at the same ratio of fuel to air in the intake mixture, which is about 20ml of fuel per litre of air.

Then after ignition the fuel turns to Carbon dioxide, at about 2% of the 20ml. (.04%)

An engine consumes about 20% of the air as Oxygen and adds about 2% back, as CO2.

Total available Oxygen consumed by using the fuel correctly, still causes a cumulative O2 deficit.

Which could probably cause the immanent extinction of life, as fast or faster; than either type of pollution.

We may find lack of oxygen more directly harmful than climate-change.

All the emphasis on carbon dioxide has disguised the real problem of air consumption.

By the way, an oil-spill is even worse, because the fuel is replaced.

So a spill does not reduce consumption at all. Unless it's the last tanker of oil left on the planet.

      Best regards.

  3. That does not bare thinking about all the loss of wild life.Better in cars.
