Environmentally friendly packaging?

For consumer goods (not edibles), what are some forms of eco-friendly materials? Like vegetable dyes, and cornstarch paper?

Look for a higher amount of recycled materials in packaging. At a glance, two of the breakfast cereal boxes in my pantry have 100% recycled paper board. Another had 100% recycled paperboard with minimum 35% post consumer content (that recycled material that comes from the average person recycling at home or work. Also, some items like the big jugs of laundry soaps have refills for those jugs that have less packaging.
