Enzo Calzaghe claims Joe Calzaghe will prove too much for Antonio Tarver – Boxing news
The father of Joe Calzaghe and the head trainer for Team Calzaghe at the Newbridge boxing club, Enzo Calzaghe, has claimed his son will prove too much for the American great warrior, Antonio ‘One Hit Wonder’ Tarver, who wants Joe Calzaghe to return to the
ring to fight him.
The current International Boxing Organisation cruiserweight champion and the former Ring Magazine, IBF, WBC, WBA and IBO light heavyweight champion, Antonio Tarver, wants the Italian Dragon, Joe Calzaghe, to make a comeback as Tarver believes he did not
get a chance to break the Welsh-British pugilist’s unbeaten record.
However, the 62-year-old Enzo Calzaghe reckons there is no prospect of his son returning to the ring.
Joe Calzaghe is a former WBO, WBA, WBA, IBF, The Ring & British super middleweight champion and The Ring Light Heavyweight champion. He holds a magnificent unbeaten record of winning all of his 46 professional fights, with 32 of his wins coming by the way
of a knockout. Therefore, Enzo thinks his son does not need to prove his legacy to anyone.
Enzo, who along with his son is the founder of Calzaghe Promotions, claimed his son wants to be remembered for what he did for the sport.
Enzo also added if his son returns to the ring it would only be for money and that is something which never drives him.
“Joe can still go and even after not fighting for three years he would have way too much for Tarver,” he said. “But what would it prove? That Joe is better than a guy we already know he is better than? People need to move on because Joe certainly has.”
He added, “He isn’t interested in returning, it would only be for the money and that doesn’t drive his thinking. He just wants to be remembered for what he did and his legacy is clear. It’s about time these guys just left him in peace, he doesn’t want that
life anymore and I don’t want it for him.”
