Enzo Calzaghe to direct and star in boxing film – Boxing News
Enzo Calzaghe, boxing trainer, is preparing for the premier of his first film Stitched Up, a film about a boxing star caught up with the mobs.
Along with Enzo, the film also stars his son Joe Calzaghe, former world champion, and Kerry Katona, reality TV star.
While talking to BBC Wales about the film, Enzo revealed, “You are going to see some dynamic action from them.”
He spoke about taking a break from boxing and making a film, “I took a rest. I bought cameras and decided to make a film - it's all imagination.”
“This is exciting in some way. The film isn't bad for a first-timer.”
He added, “Joe said, 'Dad that was great' which is unusual for him. It took so long to make because I'm a perfectionist. There is not one script, I just gave them the scene and let them do it naturally while I directed.”
Stitched Up is a low budget movie from Enzo, a 63-year-old trainer who has achieved much appreciation for his capabilities in the boxing universe.
Enzo trained his son who retired as an unbeaten professional fighter. Enzo takes his son as his biggest accomplishment in life and now wants to train others as well to follow the same path.
Recently, Enzo made an offer to Briton fighter Amir Khan for training him. After Amir Khan’s recent devastating knockout loss to unbeaten American Danny Garcia, a lot of fellow fighters and trainers recommended the Bolton proud to retire from the sport.
Enzo was among those who instead of discouraging the former IBF and WBA light welterweight titlist, offered his assistance. He offered Khan training under him to transform into an unbeaten fighter like his son.
It should be noted here that Enzo and Khan were in touch before as well, following Khan’s knockout loss to Prescott, but things did not work out back then. Now, Enzo has once again lent his hand forward to Khan.
For now, Enzo is on a break from the boxing to launch his movie on the silver screen. He is excited and is hoping boxing fans would love the show in its entirety.
