Enzo Maccarinelli: I have never been tested positive, ashamed of recent naivety – Boxing News
Enzo Maccarinelli, the former BBBC British cruiserweight champion, in a recent interview revealed that he has been tested almost 20 times before bouts or randomly, and has never been found positive for any banned substance. He added that he is ashamed of
his naivety and will vacate his title voluntarily.
The 31-year-old British proud who now faces a six-month retrospective ban, further added that his intentions were not to use the substance in order to enhance performance in bout with Shane McPhilbin, adding that he apologises for his actions and is ready
to support the United Kingdom Anti-Doping (UKAD) agency in every possible manner.
Currently ranked as the second best cruiserweight in Britain, Enzo faced a tough ban after being found guilty of using a banned substance Methylhexaneamine (MHA). Maccarinelli gave a sample to the anti-doping authorities after his successful win over Shane
McPhilbin.
The sample was passed through the generally accepted procedures and was found stained with MHA. As a result, after careful and thorough investigation conducted by the UKAD, Enzo was banned from taking part in any kind of boxing competition for a period of
six months.
The news came to the Welsh proud with great shock as he did not intake anything deliberately to enhance his stamina or performance. As a matter of fact, it was the former WBO cruiserweight champion’s naivety that led to such dismal consequences.
While referring to the scenario and putting forth his apology, Enzo stated, “[I] apologise to everyone involved in boxing for any stain on our great sport. I wish to state that this substance was in no way used to gain any advantage in the ring or enhance
my performance.”
Enzo explained, “I have been tested over 20 times in my career and have never failed any random or post- fight doping test, but on this occasion, due to my naivety, I have tested positive for a banned substance.”
Maccarinelli also offered his services and volunteered to assist the UKAD in controlling and eventually eradicating the menace of drug intake. While sharing his thoughts Enzo commented that he does not want other athletes to face a ban like his in plain
ambiguity, adding that he just took the supplement after looking at an advert on which no such thing was mentioned.
Enzo further added that the product claimed that it is good for athletes, the main reason why he took it. Maccarinelli’s ban will end on October 18, 2012 and till then presumably Enzo will dedicate his whole time in aiding UKAD outbox the companies that
issue drugs with false information.
